Charette: Development Impacts Project - Phase 1

The City of Medina Development Services Department invites you to participate in its Development Impacts Forum and Charrette to collaborate on Phase 1 of the Development Impacts Project.
What is a "Charette" and why is the City of Medina having one on June 17th?
The City is undertaking the Development Impacts Project, an effort intent on addressing outspoken concern from Medina residents at their loss of privacy, property enjoyment, or property value due to cumbersome redevelopment of neighboring homes. In February, the City passed Ordinance 1052, an interim measure that intended to address Medina residents' concerns by increasing required side setbacks, creating requirements for increased setbacks at upper stories, and removing the option to build against bonus heights. In response, Medina residents with plans to redevelop their property have expressed concern that the effects of Ordinance 1052 are too limiting and have asked the City to reconsider the ordinance.
The Development Impacts Project consists of two phases, and the City has designed a Charette and Forum for Phase 1 of the project. Phase 1 focuses on creating regulatory zoning framework that addresses potential unintended effects of Ordinance 1052 (i.e., constrained redevelopment potential, particularly at narrow lots), while also minding the City's intention to protect the privacy, enjoyment, and value of neighboring properties.
The Charette is designed as an interactive, collaborative forum inviting the public’s involvement in resolving development-related impacts on Medina residents. All stakeholders of the Development Impacts Project (including Medina residents and development industry professionals) will be asked to participate in activities designed to provoke perspectives and challenge approaches to Phase 1 of the Project. Medina's Development Services staff and consulting team will apply the thoughtful contributions offered during the Charette in its continued work with elected and appointed officials to resolve Phase 1 of the Project.
We welcome all residents, architects, and others to participate in the City’s Phase 1 approach to resolving development-related impacts on Medina residents.
This meeting will be held in hybrid format, allowing opportunity for both in-person and remote participation.
