Animal Licensing

Medina Ordinance 1060 - A license is required for all dogs and cats over the age of six (6) months owned by any person residing within the city. License tags shall be securely attached or affixed to the licensed animal at all times. Failure to obtain a license shall constitute an infraction, punishable by a fine of $25.00.

Seasonal rules apply for dogs in Medina Park. Please review MMC 12.24.025 for further information.

Effective September 1^st, 2026, the City of Medina will no longer process animal licensing applications for residents of Medina and Hunts Point. To purchase or renew a pet license, please visit the King County Pet Licensing website. Pricing for King County pet licenses is as follows:

With this new contracted service, the Medina Police Department will refer all calls for service involving animals to the King County Animal Control division. Animals found in Medina or Hunts Point will be placed under the care of King County Animal Control Officers and taken to an animal shelter to be cared for until the owner is reached. If an owner is unable to be located, the animal will be kept at the shelter facility through King County’s holding period until it is assessed for its ability to enter into their adoption program.
