Message from Chief Sass

On behalf of the members of the Medina Police Department, I want to welcome you to our website and sincerely hope you find it a valuable resource.  Our dedicated law enforcement officers are highly trained, public service oriented, and committed to serving our residents and visitors to Medina and the nearby town of Hunts Point.  Medina is a small city on the shores of Lake Washington with a very close-knit community.  We embrace the opportunity every day to work with our many residents to make this a safe place to live, work, and visit.

The Medina Police Department is an accredited agency that takes pride in providing the highest quality of professional services to everyone we encounter.  From ensuring the safety of residents by providing house checks, patrols of our city, parks and marine areas to traffic law enforcement and investigations, we are committed to providing the best in community service.

I've spent the last 30 years with the Washington State Patrol, promoting to the rank of assistant chief in charge of the Field Operations Bureau.  I served the majority of my State Patrol career in the Puget Sound area as a trooper, sergeant, lieutenant, and captain before spending the last six years in Olympia as the assistant chief.  I have an extensive managerial background in field operations, budget and finance, event planning, project management, and homeland security. I currently hold a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Washington State University and a master’s degree in Public administration.  I attended command school at Northwestern University School of Police staff and command, have an Executive Certificate in Public Leadership from the Harvard Kennedy School.  In 2015 I received the governors award for Leadership in Management after coordinating numerous large-scale events.
